(Isobe) B-1
Traditionally this is said to be the place where Amaterasu (sun goddess) hid herself. It is situated at the side of Ise Shrine forest, and the water that springs forth has been selected as one of “Japan’s 100 best waters.”

Izawanomiya Shrine is a particularly holy shrine in the inner sanctuary of Ise Jingu Shrine. When Yamatohimeno-mikoto went around the country of Shima, she told Izawatomino-mikoto to build this shrine, which he did.

(Ago) D-3
During the Nara era, Emperor Shomu disseminated Buddhism; by imperial decree, one temple had to be built in every region. Hence Shima-Kokubunji was erected. Every year on May 8, the flower festival is held and the temple is packed with worshippers.

This Asekaki Jizo (Perspiring guardian deity) is said to perspire white sweat on good occasions and black sweat in times of disaster. Every year on February 24th, the jizo festival is held.

(Shima) B-4
This Jizoson-Ishibotoke(Stone Buddhist Image) is situated west of Goza Port. It is built in the sea, and depending on the tide, it appears and disappears. Hence it is also called Shiobotoke (Tidal Buddha).
